So you love sea kayaking, but have you discovered the beauty of combining sea kayaking and travelling?
Here are our top 3 sea kayaking destinations.
Greenland
Our remotest kayaking Destination
Greenland is one of the world's last remaining wildernesses. With very little road access, hiking trails or public transport, exploring Greenland is best done in a kayak.
The fjords and coastline of Greenland offer so much history, wilderness, and adventure that we can't help but rate it as our number one destination. Spend your days meandering between gigantic icebergs and watch humpback whales feeding. Campsites are guaranteed to be wild and remote. If you're lucky, you may even get a visit from a curious and somewhat cheeky Arctic fox.
We love the East coast of Greenland, with alpine-style mountains surrounding the deep fjords and glaciers stretching into the sea. The vista and landscape will have you mesmerised in every direction.
Lofoten, Norway
the best destination for beaches and island kayaking
Number two on our list of epic kayaking destinations in Lofoten. Just inside the Arctic Circle, this little corner of the world is a place where steep Norwegian mountains fall into the ocean. You'll find yourself camping on white sandy beaches and watching the midnight sun skirt across the horizon.
The wildlife in Northern Norway is particularly fantastic, with a pod of local killer whales, hundreds of nesting Sea Eagles, and the majestic blows of minke whales as they feed in front of your campsite. You can't help but feel part of nature as you explore these magical islands. The best part of travelling by kayak in Lofoten is that you can hardly see another soul on your journey.
Scotland
a rugged kayaking destination with epic wildlife
Ok, it's clear we like our kayaking to be wild, and Scotland is just that. A rugged, sparse coastline, with numerous islands of varying sizes and deep, long, sheltered Sea lochs, often needing days to be explored. Scotland has bags of character, with charming fishing villages and challenging headlands. Scotland has something for every level of paddler.
The wildlife is incredible; you can sit for hours watching curious seals play beneath your kayak and watch sea eagles hunt, dolphins and basking sharks cruise past the nose of your kayak. Beware the mighty midge! Choose a camp with a light breeze, or you might find out why Scots are such a tough breed.
